SAR Skills Competition 2008 updated Posted Monday, July 21, 2008 by vRADM Ivey
Good day Gentleman,
The date and time are set for the games, Place: PHJR Time: August 31.2008 at 00:30 Zulu. We have spoken to the DCO's and you guys need to contact them first to get a clearance and all coordination will be done through your DCO.
For those that may say why so late? we have to deal with both sides of the country and depending on how time goes we will get into the second day if we need too. Just remember that Sunday 00:30 Zulu August 31st will be Saturday night for most (USA) so the second day would be Sunday if we need it but in GMT time it will all be Sunday.
If we need the extra day we will decide on that hopefully prior to the games starting up and we will finish up later Sunday afternoon hopefully before 21:00Z.

LANTCOM promotion and DCO/acting positions Posted Monday, July 21, 2008 by vRADM Ivey
It is with great pleasure that HQ announces the promotion of vRADM Cyphers from the 5th District to the position of vVADM LANTCOM. Jason has worked very hard for D5 and D1 and will continue to do so for all of the East Coast Operations. His new posting will be challenging and no doubt will prove to be a great asset for the vUSCG.
In the interim Jason will now also be acting DCO for D1 and D5 untill we back fill those positions down the road. vRADM Mike Fenton will not only have D7 but will assume acting DCO for D8 and D9, Asst. Director Training and HITRON Commander. Mike's work continues to prove beyond a doubt what a great Commander is all about.
On the West Coast we also have some great news! vRADM(LH) Chris Wooton has accepted a transfer from D8 to D11 and assumes Acting Commander for D13. No doubt with Chris's great work this will prove to be a great asset for PACCOM.
vRADM(LH) Jason Bergeron is DCO in the 17th and adds Acting Commander of the 14th to his belt. Jason's work also proves to be fantastic and he too is a valuable team member of PACCOM.
As I mentioned previously, all those acting positions will be back filled as we progress down the road. Good luck Jason, Jason B, Mike and Chris with your new position(s).

Update 1 vCAF - vUSCG SAREX Guardian Posted Thursday, April 10, 2008 by vRADM Ivey
Scenery is moving along very well. It looks great and testing will soon be complete. It's going to be a "sizeable" download and some that you will have to get on your own to help reduce size. All the directions will be included in the first download.
We have no intention from swaying from the Generator but this orginal download will help us in the long run to future exercises we have with other VSOA's as the Geny is secure and will remain so.
Once the major part of this downloading is complete we should only have to pass BGL's amongst ourselves.
Looking forward to everyones cooperation, thanks.

International Ice Patrol update Posted Saturday, February 2, 2008 by vRADM Ivey
Good Day vUSCG Pilots First of all I would like to give you a bit of history that truly reflects why the USCG/vUSCG flies the International Ice Patrol: From the earliest journeys into the North Atlantic, icebergs have threatened vessels. A review of the history of navigation prior to the turn of the century shows an impressive number of casualties occurred in the vicinity of the Grand Banks. For example, the LADY OF THE LAKE sank in 1833 with a loss of 70. Between 1882 and 1890, 14 vessels were lost and 40 seriously damaged due to ice. This does not include the large number of whaling and fishing vessels lost or damaged by ice. It took one of the greatest marine disasters of all times to arouse public demand for international cooperative action to deal with this marine hazard. This disaster, the sinking of the RMS TITANIC on April 15, 1912, was the prime impetus for the establishment of the International Ice Patrol. This is to remind you of your upcoming participation in International Ice Patrol at CYYT. To keep with realism the IIP will now be bumped forward to February 15th. The attached schedules you have recieved is good to go and your tasking has been forwarded with your times for start up and completion. All necessary downloads for Ice Tracks and Berg scenery for the 2008 season can be found on the IIP page at D5. (Be advised that CYYT Scenery and FSNav files are good to go, do not download IIP 2007 Scenery Files) This will be announced very soon.
Good luck, good flying and we look forward to having you operate with D5/LANTCOM on this worth while mission.

This is a general call out for Pilots interested in participating in the IIP Program and be advised that your DCO/DDC will require you contact them first for permission to particpate due to Operational requirements that may take precedence at your District before submitting your name.

All of this will be coordinated by me and it will be a first come first served time schedule. I anticipate having the schedule completed by February 16th and sent to all Pilots who will be flying the IIP. Cut off date for submission will be February 15. 2359Zulu.
Prior to departure for CYYT you will have to maintain contact with me through secure e-mail and I will ensure there is a good transition. Actual Ice Tracks (FS Nav files)and Reporting procedures will be issued and monitored through secure e-mail by me for logging and Pilot change outs.

Good day Gentleman,
FYI HITRON is ongoing and because of it's recent activation, new incoming trainees which will consist of mostly DCO's etc, will have to complete the required training before we move on. This does not constitute that all vUSCG Pilots are to apply, they will be hand picked and required as a "need be" basis. This is a "elite selected" bunch that will be hand chosen by HITRON Command. We look forward to all that may apply but understand that the Steering Committee will have last say on submission.

SAR Skills Competition 2007 update IV Posted Saturday, September 8, 2007 by vRADM Ivey
SAR Skills Competition is now closed for applicants. Everyone should have now completed their trip to KMOB or have that done shortly.
Participants are to ensure they are aware of their time zones as it applies to GMT/Zulu. Start up is at 20:30 Zulu this Sunday.
Participants are to show up at the scheduled time and certainly 15-20 minutes prior to Operations start would be prudent. Questions can be asked prior to and taskings can be issued by the DCO's/Judges.
We are going to endeavour to complete the SAR Skills Events in 1 evening. If for some reason time becomes an issue the DCO's/Judges will make the call.
For those who cannot hold a "strong" internet connection do not forget to save and rejoin in progress.
Good luck, have fun and don't be out to late visiting the sites and sounds of Mobile!
