Welcome to ATC Mobile, Alabama. While here you will learn what it takes to become a pilot for the vUSCG. It will take as many as 30-40 hours of training with an Instructor Pilot to get you to a basic level to fly as a member of the vUSCG conducting Search and Rescue missions, Homeland Security Patrols, and flying specialized missions such as HITRON-10. In March 2008 the new pilot training program was overhauled to aid new pilots just joining the vUSCG in a smoother, quicker and more helpful experience. As a starting point an instructor syllabus was created that all Instructor Pilot’s (IP) follow to ensure consistent and quality training. The Mobile scenery was re-designed in an attempt to match the real world ATC Mobile. Once your application is complete, and you have been notified of your acceptance into the training program for the vUSCG, you will receive an e-mail with directions on how to register for the site, as well as your instructors information. Your instructor will then contact you, to request a time to meet on-line to begin your training. Training will consist of ground school (ensuring you have all the programs and downloads installed and working properly, review of communications, ATC, air space, weather, SAR patterns and more). You and your instructor will then take to the air to put into practice what you learned on the ground. Once all your training is complete, and your instructor is confidant in your abilities, you will be given a checkride. Upon successful completion of your checkride, you will graduate the training academy, will be promoted to the rank of vLTJG, and will be given your district assignment. Attention: You will need a navigation program either FSNav for FS2004 or FS Commander which works for both FS2004 and FSX versions.
