Operation Northern Vigil is an Air Mobility Command
humanitarian exercise conducted in February of every
year in the remote reaches of Alaska. The mission
of Operation Northern Vigil is to provide
humanitarian airlift and to provide medical relief
to many remote villages while enhancing the skills
of Air Mobility Aircrews. Given the time of year
Operation Northern Vigil takes place, aircrews can
expect to be subjected to extremely violent and ever
changing weather conditions, which will allow
aircrews to gain experience in dealing with these
kinds of conditions while landing at remote and
austere facilities throughout the state.
Participating units usually include All units of AMC with Support coming from Air National Guard, Virtual US Marines, Virtual US Coast Guard and Virtual Canadian Air Force. Aircraft will be either based from Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage or from ships operating offshore. Participants include:
